Ecological smartcity concepts

Our planning is based on the principles of sustainable development. We create ecological smartcity concepts both for greenfield areas and existing urban structure. Our concepts aim at minimizing the energy consumption and emissions generated by urban communities.

An ecological smartcity aims for local production and self-sufficiency. In our concepts we take into account local culture, cost efficiency and future technologies.

Case Example: Mentougou Eco-valley
Eero Paloheimo Ecocity designed a new Ecocity of 17 km2 and 20 000 inhabitants in the Miaofengshan valley in Mentougou, China. This project was nominated for the international Katerva Award in 2011.

Climate impact analysis

One of our main services is evaluating the climate impact of urban plans. Our analysis shows what causes climate impact in urban community. It helps urban planners and authorities to improve sustainability of their plans.

For these analysis we have developed a variety of tools proven useful and accurate in numerous projects in all major cities in Finland

Ecocity evaluator

EcoCity Evaluator is a tool for planning ecologically and economically smart cities.

The Ecocity Evaluator helps authorities, urban planners and developers to find the most cost-effective way to plan and build sustainable cities.

YKR climate

YKR Climate is a service concept based on our calculation tool (YKR-tool) developed for Finnish communities.

The tool uses spatial data (YKR) to estimate energy efficiency and GHG emissions of current community structures, but with future scenarios it’s also possible to model upcoming changes. With the tool it's easy to generate new numerical and comparable environmental data describing the current situation.

Green factor tool

The Green Factor tool helps urban planners to guide the construction of new developments and to reduce their environmental impacts.

The tool is based on green factor approach. It is particularly suitable for stormwater management and maintaining sufficient green space. With the tool it is possible to define requirements to guide construction and to monitor how they are met.
